What are ‘Chakras’ and how can I explore healing with them?

Chakras are energy vortexes or ‘wheels’ within the body, of which we have thousands but 7 primary ones (see pic below), when our life-energy or Prana is flowing through them freely we feel aligned, alive and in the flow of life. Our thought patterns and emotions from experiences and trauma impact the quality and flow of Prana within our Chakras which then impacts the physical body because the Soul speaks to us through the physical - what might start as niggles, if ignored can lead to conditions or injury. It might start as a feeling of being ‘out of flow’ or disconnected. Through Yoga + Meditation we can bring awareness to our way of being, our choices and then expand and improve the quality of Prana in our Chakras, thereby improving our physical and mental wellbeing. I know this to be true, because I have experienced this on many occasions in the last 30 years of working with Chakras.

At 19yrs old I was blessed to meet an amazing Naturopath, Debbie Patterson, she gave me ‘Anatomy of the Spirit’ by Carolyn Myss (which I have now read a dozen times over). I have lived reflecting on all my experiences, ailments and injuries with connection to my Chakras. Now 30yrs on this is still my way of healing, I have come to learn that we each have an immense potential to heal ourselves. Every physical condition has an emotional element behind it, and therefore nothing physical can ever be fully healed without considering the Spirit. We can only truly heal ourselves as a whole being, the physical symptom is the messenger from our Soul. I have recently watched Carolyn Myss incredible series of 12 episodes on Gaia ‘Sacred Power’ - if you are on a healing journey, if you have come up against constant stop signs, ongoing illness and injury this is a must see! It will help you break any habitual sabotaging ways.

I have lived my life reflecting on my body’s niggles as a guide to becoming aware of disrupted energy flow and mis-alignment in life. Any injury or condition I’ve considered has been a message to stop and adjust my choices, and it has transformed me PLUS I have healed my body in ways I never thought was possible (in fact it still seems a bit miraculous). This is what I love sharing in my Chakras in Practice workshops and on my retreats - where we focus on one Chakra each class - reflecting on the physical body parts, the elements, the mind and its patterns of thought, emotional ways of being and habits we have formed, meditations and inspirations to shift into our truest nature and getting the rest out of our own way. Awake and aware, the only way to truly heal ourselves.
