5 Tips to re-ignite your home Yoga practice
We’re well into winter and perhaps the wheels have fallen off the home Yoga practice? There couldn’t be a more important time to be moving to stay limbered, injury free, digestion + circulation stimulated, with lungs clear and open. It’s the perfect time to breathe new life into your home yoga practice.
Here are 5 tips to help you fall back in love with your Yoga practice, no matter how long you’ve been away from your mat.
Have your props visible, laid out or in a basket for quick’n easy setup. Where you can see them is a great first step that doesn’t require you actually DO any yoga. They’ll subliminally say, “Use me! Use me!” and you’ll start to remember how great Yoga feels in your body, your mind, and your spirit.
Welcome yourself to practice with no expected outcome. Check in with where you are at today, no judgement, just allowing yourself to be, to move and breathe from there.
Choose your style, be guided by your current needs. Select from Playlist Series ie Boost My Mood or Loving My Lower Back. Perhaps you need more strength or more release? Rest or movement? Improve how you breathe?
Set the time and day, make yourself accountable and commit to a weekly time slot. Pop it in your diary just as you would an appointment or a date with a friend.
Notice how you feel at the end of your practice and thank yourself for showing up. Acknowledging how great you feel afterwards gives you something to tune into as your why for next time. Notice how your day rolls after Yoga……there’s always more flow to a Yoga day, seriously, always ;-).

I’ve been teaching Yogalates, Hatha Yoga, Restorative Yoga, Yoga Meditation + Breath Therapy for over 20 years. The foundations of my teachings are The Yogalates Method incorporating the Key Fundamental Pelvic Patterns in Yoga Therapy (by Josephine Key - The Key Approach, Neuro-Musculo-Skeletal Physiotherapist). Physiotherapists, Chiropractors, Exercise Physiologists, Body Therapists + GPs have long referred to me because I offer a safe approach to functional movement, effective rehabilitation from joint + spinal injuries, re-training dysfunctional core + pelvic floor (including applying them functionally to Asana Yoga practice, Pilates reformer and matwork). I specialise in improved breathing efficiency + developing breath awareness as a tool for the profound physical, mental + emotion support it is ultimately the foundation of.
Making the connection of breath + core activation and their direct link to organ function, nervous system regulation, posturo-movement dysfunction and pain is LIFE CHANGING! Perhaps this is so because breath awareness develops a steady mind + a sense of connection thereby providing relief + ease in the body ... I’ll let you be the judge.
