Our posture is our mood, our confidence
Our posture speaks for us as we enter a room, no idea if it’s the chicken or the egg which goes first, if we are emotionally challenged or lacking in confidence our posture will reflect this out into the world for everyone to see. It impacts our breath, our nervous system, our comfort levels, even the decisions we make, who + what we attract into our world. It’s not just physical, it’s energetic. It’s a given if your posture is poor, so is your mood + confidence.
I recently shared in a live my experience of feeling aches + pains in my body plus my posture being challenged on our Sailing Adventure. My self-maintenance dwindled to nothing with our sailing schedule plus having limited space on board. Also the repetitive shapes I create with my body to move in/out + around the boat has me constantly hunching over. I’ve even had to stop wearing my bun as it gets caught and has caused some nasty jerking to my neck, woes of being a giraffe I suppose.
Within 2 months I suffered pain throughout my body, in particular severe nerve pain in my neck, aching SIJ and both elbows tendonitis. I definitely was not presenting or feeling my best Self! However, it goes to show how well my practice prior to this was serving me so well. Having navigated these and many other conditions since birth, I have reaped the benefits and lived the last several years completely pain free. I had no idea what other 50 year olds were talking about….until now (but not for long!).
I know all too well it’s unnecessary to live with discomfort, when we find ourselves doing so it always comes down to one thing ~ not prioritising our Self. It serves nobody well when we prioritise our fellow humans, pets, chores or jobs over our own comfort. Giving attention to our Self first creates magic all around us, it changes everything.
Having now recommitted to my Self, re-assessed our schedule, my space + adjusted to what is possible, I’ve inserted movement + breathwork and feel 90% better than I was 3 weeks ago and definitely standing taller. Oh and having a tonne more fun!
