Anyone up for some forest bathing?

Shinrin-yoku is a Japanese cultural practice, translates as 'taking in the forest atmosphere'

This practice is part of Japan's national public health program since 1982 and the government has spent millions on scientific research into the physical and psychological health benefits of forest bathing.  It's not news to any of us that soaking up the sounds and pace of Mother Nature has a profound effect on our health and wellbeing.  In fact spending time in nature has always been in the top 5 tips for bringing us back into balance, finding our inner peace.  It has been scientifically proven to reduce stress, lower cortisol levels, pulse rate and blood pressure.  PLUS improves our mood and boosts our 'natural killer' cells which help protect against viruses and cancers ~ and continues to function at this high level for up to a week after the experience!

This particular practice is not hiking, counting your steps or your increased heart beat .... there is no goal but to sit or meander and relax just being with the trees ..... and not necessary naked as you would to bathe normally, but this is your choice of course (perhaps make sure it's your own land and not in public ;-)

Need a bit of forest bathing?  Here are some tips on how to best Shinrin-yoku this weekend;

  1. Find a spot with lots of trees

  2. Disconnect from technology including your watch (perhaps tell others where you are going)

  3. Go Slow....even slower than that

  4. Absorb your surrounds - use your senses 1 min of each; sounds, touch, sight, taste, smell.

  5. Enjoy the mystery of each detail you notice

I hope this weekend, or sometime real soon, you find time for a little forest bathing. Stay tuned for some forest bathing with Inspya in the coming weeks. Make sure you have joined our FB private group page Inspya Me Tribe or email me your interest.

Have a wonderful weekend in wellness Yogis.
